For some, this can be a really tough decision.  Family is a big part of wedding ceremonies and children can be expected to be involved at every stage.  However, many couples choose not to have children at their wedding due to the additional costs to tight budgets as well as their desire to have an adult social experience at the reception. Whichever you choose, here are some points of etiquette when dealing with this decision.

 

The proper way to let guests know that children aren’t invited is to leave their names off the outer and inner envelope of the invitation. Putting “no children” on the invitations is not appropriate. Another way is to make sure that the key people in the wedding know so they pass the word around.  If there is anyone you think is offended by the invitation, you may want to send a hand written note.  It’s important to let the guests know that your decision is not directed at them, but a desire or a necessity, to make the special day you are planning to go as smooth as possible.
